Sometimes an idea lays dormant for years and then one day it quietly resurfaces and whispers “It’s my turn now.”

Hot on the heels of Tessellation Nation I'm thrilled to be launching a new crochet blanket project for 2026:

Ogees: ICONIC CROCHET FOR MODERN MAKERS

Are you bored with conventional crochet projects?
Are you ready to take your crochet skills to new levels of mastery?
I dare you to join me on my next crochet adventure!

Each of my crochet projects has built on previous work and the most important part of this process is watching how each maker takes an idea and runs with it.

When I launched Tessellation Nation in January 2024 I was joined by almost 400 early adopters ready to help shape this new course, and I never imagined the incredible work that would be generated by our community members.

The different design iterations have been amazing - so I’m SUPER excited to see how this new design is interpreted!

Taking ownership of the design process is rewarding and empowering and I believe everyone has the potential to curate their own unique design work when given a few basic guidelines.

Ogees Blanket Crochet course
"I am totally blown away by the course. Your knowledge, the way the course is built up, the start with the colour palette, training the colour muscles and then on the designing - I am very impressed. So, completely in love with this course. Thank you so much for all the hard, hard work that must be behind it. It is so comprehensive that it must have taken a very, very long time to put the course together." - DONJAH
Ogees pattern

Ogee’s is based on a very simple composition using a collection of different motifs that draw inspiration from stylised organic forms such as leaves, seed heads and flowers. It also pays homage to mid century textile designers such as Lucienne Day and Marian Mahler.

The Ogee is a design classic that has a long history and it features in surface pattern and architectural design in many different cultures. This shape is elegant, perfectly balanced and provides a beautiful framework to contain more detailed and decorative imagery.

This is what you’ll get on the course:

  • Guidance and help with putting a beautiful colour palette together that’s guaranteed to look stunningly sophisticated. Or you can simply follow my colour plan.
  • Colouring sheets to help you explore different colours, motifs and arrangements.
  • A collection of detailed crochet tutorials that include left and right handed videos, written instructions and stitch diagrams for each motif.
  • Dripped content every week to help you stay on task and prevent ‘information dump’ overwhelm!
  • There’ll be a minimum of 10 different motifs which fit into the Ogee shape, some will be simple and some will be complex. You’ll decide which ones feature in your final work.
  • You’ll be part of a social network and global community of crochet enthusiasts.
  • I host regular live Q&A’s on Zoom where you can ask me questions, meet others on the course, receive support and encouragement and be a cheer leader for all our course members.
  • Course content will also include audio podcasts designed to keep you on track and motivated throughout the project.

This course starts online - 7th April 2026

Introducing Sue Maton

Sue Maton

"My mission is to design contemporary crochet products that retain the values of traditional craft:
beautiful natural materials and good functional design.

I make products to be used and loved – and I’d like to help you do the same!"

WHY LEARN WITH ME?

  • I have 30 years’ experience (eeek!! THIRTY!!!) of teaching textiles and art and design and understand that everyone has a completely unique learning style.
  • I’ve taught at every age and every level including Degree level, Masters, Further Education, Adult Education and in a Steiner School.
  • I can break complicated things down into easy to understand instructions.
  • I am immeasurably patient!!
  • I don’t take myself too seriously and believe enjoyment and progress override perfection every time.
  • If you’re reassured by qualifications; I have a degree in Knitwear Design, a Post Graduate Diploma in Textiles, an MA in Textile Culture and a DTLL’s teaching qualification.
  • I have a genuine passion and curiosity for a wide range of art and design disciplines (verging on the obsessive) and not just crochet!

Here’s what people are saying about my other crochet courses

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the course so far. It has been everything I hoped for and more. It has given my brain cells a workout and prompted me to play with colour and yarn I also wanted to commend the production quality of all your materials, but particularly the videos. My day job is working in corporate land as an e-learning developer and I’m very aware how much time and effort you have put into all the materials. From my perspective, it was worth every minute. It is such a joy (and sadly often a rarity) to take a course where every detail has been carefully considered.”

JO

------

“I am having a wonderful time listening and watching the videos. I am finding everything so fascinating! Thank you for such a thoughtful class!  A huge amount of work went into this! That is obvious!”
LINDA

------

"I am totally blown away by the course. Your knowledge, the way the course is built up, the start with the colour palette, training the colour muscles and then on the designing - I am very impressed. So, completely in love with this course. Thank you so much for all the hard, hard work that must be behind it. It is so comprehensive that it must have taken a very, very long time to put the course together."

DONJAH

 ------

“This course was the best I ever did.  The videos und pdfs are made with so much effort and are so detailed that even a beginner like me (I have knitted a lot before, but hardly ever crocheted) can follow along. It was a pleasure for me to do this course. It is indescribably good and you learn much more than just how to crochet the blanket, but also the whole design process and how to use the colours.”

ASTRID

 ------

I’m finding the course content really well organised and clear. I was worried I might feel overwhelmed by the scale of the project but the way it’s broken down into steps makes it feel totally achievable, even for a slow crocheter like me. It’s great that there’s no pressure to keep up and I feel very comfortable working through the course at my own pace. It’s brilliant that everyone in the community is at different stages, I love that I can learn from others who are further ahead and pass on tips to those who are further behind. I’m not the most confident of crocheters and am more used to US terminology but your learn to crochet course was perfect for a quick refresher to get my brain used to the UK terminology. It’s the first time I’ve done a join as you go project and I’m loving it. I’m even finding weaving in the ends as I go just feels like part of the process which is a plus. Anyway, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for this superb and truly unique course!

SARAH

------

“I started Sue’s Tessellation Nation class at the start of 2025, mesmerised by the beautiful design. I tried to work slowly, savouring every step. It is not like any crochet project I have ever done before. It is very much like creative quilting, which I love. Now I am on my last round of the trim, so excited!

I have learned so much from Sue’s design and her inspiring colour selection and pairing. There is so much freedom and very forgiving, encouraging self expression with careful and detailed guidance along the way. Each step is provided with detailed video instructions, pdf write up, and crochet diagrams, plus encouraging podcast and periodic live meets. I am very grateful for all of that; it also made the process so enjoyable. It is always filled with exciting new details at every turn. I am very glad that I have followed Sue’s original design with my first try, which taught me so much on colour selection and pairing that opens my eyes for new possibilities. I know for sure that this won’t be my last tessellation blanket, with many new design structure and colours to try.

I particularly am so inspired by other fellow students work design, shared struggles, and words of encouragement. Tessellation Nation is such a rewarding class with such an artistic depth, I am so glad that I found Sue and this class. Thanks again!”
